It’s already been shown he doesn’t care about her. A controlling attitude like this is the logical next step. They probably have at least a somewhat abusive relationship.
I have to concur with the other feedback:
It’s just not obvious from the panels whether he actually hit Jen or was merely forcefully reclaiming his phone. Also, it would seem pretty disjointed or sudden for him to get violent like that without provocation.
Nah, he didn’t hit her. As you can see in the next update, Jen ends up on the ground clutching her belly (Max grabbing his phone back caused her to lose her balance and fall).
I can understand wanting to call “the CIA,” but hitting Jen? Not smart on many, many levels.
I think you’ve just found another reason for her sneaking out there Jen.
For some reason he doesn’t look angry enough as he strikes her. Makes the image just a tad disjointed.
*I think it’s that his eyes are not narrowed enough and the brows don’t imply he’s angry – more confusion or question.

I think he just rather forcefully took his phone back, remember she still has an abdominal injury.

Heh, I stand corrected…sure does look like he did.
