1st!.. and now a question.. if the reason the lady is “trapped” in the body is because she used up all the orblight energy she had stored up.. why dont she just go get more??
Ophelia: Thanks. Blake: If that’s what you intended, it is not a usage I’ve ever encountered in US English… at least not in this sentence structure. If someone said this to me, I would not have understood their intent… and I’ve got a pretty wide vocabulary, though I admit it’s biased towards the Northeast, Californian, Midwest Broadcast, and computer-geek dialects.
Then again, my eyes cross every time one of my Indian correspondents writes “I have a doubt”, meaning a question without the connotation of skepticism that “doubt” carries for us… and if we _did_ intend that connotation, our usage would be “I doubt”.
Oh well. Cultures separated by our shared language…

Fair enough. But yes, that was the intended meaning. You could straight replace “pry” with “question” in the sentence if you seek clarity.
For the record, it’s not a usage I’ve ever encountered either. But the Lady chose it, so who are we to argue? 😉
Lothahnus, I think Jen’s a real person. I think the Lady was either stuck into Jen’s body as a punishment or the Lady used Jen’s body as a hiding place and found she couldn’t leave it permanently.
Of course, I don’t have the best memory in the world so you may be right.

beautiful page, wish the vote button was there!
The vote button reappeared after I relaxed my NoScript settings a bit.
… However, it looks like TWC’s server is down.

“why dont she just go get more??”
Marjorie asked that very same question:

Well, if she’s trapped in the body, how exactly is she supposed to get out and get more?
It does, however, raise the question that if, using the car example from before, can someone come by and give her a jump?
Jen is not a real person right? its just a false persona right? why not just kil herself and free herself from the shell of a body?
Though I _what_ the wisdom? “I do not think that word means what you think it means.” Either that or you have a typesetting error.
Why do you think it’s the wrong word? Just curious.
Pry fits…see the below definition from dictionary.com:
to get, separate, or ferret out with difficulty: to pry a secret out of someone; We finally pried them away from the TV.
@technogeek When used without an object, the word “pry” means “to question; to look closely/curiously”. 🙂

“why not just kil herself and free herself from the shell of a body?”
Interesting questions which will definitely be addressed.

Might help to have print editions of these comics on your bookshelf. Just sayin’.
