SpiderForest Comic of the Week:
dream*scar by Heather Meade.
As Heather herself describes it, dream*scar is “set in a post-modern, alternate reality” where “unhumans, creatures of myth and lore [vampires, werewolves, dragons etc], live openly amongst humans”.
It’s a premise which promises, and delivers, an intriguing mix of realism and fantasy. The story is engaging from the off, with a habit of disarming the reader with goofy humor before hitting them with tragedy like a ton of bricks. And it has some of the most gorgeous art I’ve ever seen.
“Unflinching”, I think.
If The Lady is going to speak formally then — even given that this isn’t her native language — you may want to get a few folks to proofread. Phrasing choices can be blamed on translation problems or use of dialects of English influenced by other languages (there are phrases which are correct in Indian English but painfully wrong in American English), but sometimes it becomes actively distracting.
Hnnn… so Francesc is going to show up again soon? Always a ‘maybe’, unless he still has a big part to play.
And then, like morning mists in hot sun, the spell was broken. I was no longer in a world of spirits and psychpomps. Of layered realities and the endless conflicts between beings.
Up to date now.
More than entertainment. I will remember what I learned here.
But… surely you are planning on visiting again?
