well the point to the warning is to tell him to stop he is wrong on who she is and trying to get her to react to a name and who she is.. basically its telling him to shut up and stop calling me these names of something that you think i am when you have no idea who i am
why don’t you all stop trying to figure out the plot and just let him tell his story the way he wants to tell it? I haven’t said anything before because I figured you were just having fun and enjoying yourselves, but you’re not. You’re setting yourselves up for disappointment.
I like the story, I like the art, I enjoy the unfolding tale, and I trust Mr. Chen to continue the quality he has demonstrated consistently throughout the series. I’m interested in what happens next in his vision, as he tells the story he’s received.
I’m not going to be disappointed if it doesn’t turn out the way I think it should, because I think it should turn out how Mr. Chen wants it to. It’s his magnum opus.
But I will be disappointed if I keep seeing people whining and complaining that the story doesn’t match their hopes.
The internets are available. Write your own story if you think your ideas are so hot.
@RO: I can’t speak for everybody who speculate on the story here, but I for one like to speculate but it doesn’t mean I expect things to turn out this way or that way. As an aspiring writer/game maker I’m truly interested in how a story might unfold. So when I see a possible branching in a story my brain starts pondering the possibiliites and I try to figure out how things would turn out if this or that happens. Granted, this often makes reading a book take quite some time, but I see it also as an exercise for my imagination.
I don’t think anyone is either whining or complaining. We’re having fun trying to guess…. which anyone does while reading a story… and having a bit more fun sharing those guesses.
As you say, alternatives are available. For example, you’re not obligated to page down and read the reactions… or to take them any more seriously than we do.
Speculating incoming events and plots allows us to train our imagination and better “feel” the story itself, thus in the end better enjoying it even when our speculations are eventually revealed wrong. It’s entirely part of the fun. 😉
@RO: You are entitled to your own attitude toward the comic, as we are to ours. I find this is a medium that encourages thought and imagination; and I find the notion of “trying to figure out the plot” to be an imaginative and creative exercise worth as much as the story itself. If I wanted a passive experience I would watch television.
As far as being disappointed at a twist in the tale… Mr. Chen’s creativity is such that this is unlikely to happen. As has been evidenced in the past, over and over again. Unexpected surprises are part of what I love this comic for. But again, that’s just me.
In the Kabbalic Mystery System, the practicioners used to invoke the Archangel Michael if they wished to seek justice for anothers wrongdoing. The sources are very explicite that if your do this, you better damn be sure that you are totally and completely in the right. The practicioner that invokes Michael foolishly is more than likely to have that justice meeted out on him as well.
I think the Lady works along the same lines. Long story short, be careful what you ask for.
I have my suspicions on what the outcome might be. The clue for me is the type of demon the lady dispatched and the song fancesco sang.
@RO Let us do as we please. It’s not like we are hurting anything and more than likely our web artist already has something planned. Like stated, speculating on what happens next allows us to expand the possibilities on what might happen.
You know, in having read through since the beginning, I kinda see the Lady being irritated that someone is invoking her name, or trying to invoke her name. I only really ever saw her get angry when she was in the other realm and she took down that demon. THAT was some scary stuff right there.
@Chris : agreed, though i believe it’s a higher emotional level than that.
The way i’ve seen it since the beginning, the Lady actually DOES get angry when someone tries to name her, no matter what, even in this panel she does. Or even when someone tries to bind with her like Eleanor did by calling her “sis”. However, the Lady is not one to get blinded by emotions that easily, and has never tapped into it, intead keeping her calm in any situation.
True, the one and only moment we’ve seen her loose her calm was when she tapped into her emotions – and those was hatred and fear rather than anger -, which indeed occured when she slew the Huntress into pieces.
This brings something more about Rona actually. the Lady, having long ascended as a higher being, has long lost her humanity in the process, keeping herself detached from human feelings. But feeling as lonely as she possibly could, she needed some friends, and those she currently has, on top of them Rona, are so important to her she’s starting to recover her humanity, bit after bit. I’d bet if, when Eleanor unleashed her final plot, the Lady was as detached as she was, say, 2 centuries ago, she would never have bothered herself to heal Rona’s soul, specially if it was bound to cost her. That’s what she did without hesitation, a human feeling at best. 🙂
@Darth Killer. This is true, and as much as she tries to stay detached, The Lady is beginning to care again. You see it in this panel when she actually tells the kid to STOP.
Darth Killer: I have to agree. I, too, have a strong impression that the Lady does what she can to not let her emotions control her, at least not when it matters. We have seen some examples of her letting of steam recently, but it was nothing of consequence (I’m talking about the soup scene, mainly).
So I think she is more guided by the struggle to not fall in a trap of being controlled by others, and by the general principle of mutual respect and politeness, cause that also helps keeping her and other’s emotions in check.
The Lady has always seemed defined by a struggle for freedom to me. A struggle of such ferocity that, by all appearances, can only originate from a genuine fear of being bound. This probably has something to do with why she gave up her name to begin with, and her break from Eleanor and her other kindred.
I was in a grumpy mood, sorry. I realize now that you guys are like dexter fans all sitting around talking about the episodes at the water cooler at work each week. Carry on, it’s a time honored tradition that goes back to radio serials.
Now i feel disapointed. She mearly sends a warning instead of noticing Kikko’s lines are not right… :/

It’s one thing when she has red eyes, another thing entirely when they start glowing.

Is that thoughful contemplation or pity i see on fancs face as he looks at kiko??

…and the title of the chapter, perhaps?

Her actions lately even make her question herself, as seen here: http://www.twilightlady.com/2008/12/02/symphony-in-the-key-of-oblivion-pg-13b/
But such a focus on not being bound will end up dictating all one’s actions. The law of attraction works in reverse. She should know this already.
Perhaps that’s why she’s letting herself feel now…

My bad.
