okay no far on the new vote incentive you made me go awwgh, i miss the old style!! no fair blake of the lady when she out, but i also like the new style.
but some times it doesn’t seem to fits the atmosphere of the comic i.e like the sword i miss the old version..
…I’m sorry, but I have to agree with DarkMyste above. The art is ace, but it doesn’t fit the atmosphere of the comic…or maybe it’s jsut me getting hooked on the original style *shrug*
The kid is definitly the demon. How could he, a 20-or-so years old soul, know the Twilight Lady’s original name is Rhamnous, when she abandonned that name centuries ago ?
Unfortunatly, the kid let it slip out of his mouth, that’s gonna be his downfall i guess. 🙂
Rhamnous the site in greece of the original temple ddicated to the worship of Nemesis. Also hate the new art work, just lacks the brooding menace of the original. Feels a bit disney unfortunately.
I do prefer the old artwork over the new, but the story and overall atmosphere are still there. I would rather have those than not have anything.
There is definitely something off about Kiko. He swings between acting like a child and acting like someone (or something) far older. This thirst for blood at any cost isn’t right. He didn’t even consider the offer of getting “his” body back. It’s possible that he realizes that after aging so much out of his body that he couldn’t adapt to living within it again, but that level of self awareness is at odds with the rest of his attitude too. I do think there was something important alluded to by the fact that the sword was useless in his hands. Perhaps Kiko is simply something that Francesc feels that he has betrayed within himself and exists solely as HIS projection?
As the Lady said, this is a tangled web that will take an age to unravel.
Also, the impression I’m getting is that Kiko knew of the being the Lady used to be, but didn’t know that’s who she was — not until Leonard told him. Whether Leonard knew her true name is an interesting question.
Two things: one, for the incentive, I am confuse: this was the first render EVER for N’tlith? Or first one of her upcoming new style? Because I see everyone else say they liked the old style better after they saw it, so I dunno. Either way, I wanna say, I get the feeling of “add a hooked warty nose and a pointy hat, and you’ve got the wicked witch of the west”… or something. At least, some complete newbie that hasn’t seen the original N’tlith might think that.
And two, I like the way things are going. Looks like everybody’s on-board with the “Yup, Kiko’s the demon here” thing, but for some reason, the very fact that you put the Lady’s original (?) name coming out of his mouth makes me think that’s not all there is to it. Also the part where she doesn’t immediately point out that he shouldn’t know that name, and doesn’t even seem to wonder how he found out… although she does seem to be slowing her pace in the last panel, so I’m guessing she tells him why she won’t help him in the next post? Neat.
“Two things: one, for the incentive, I am confuse: this was the first render EVER for N’tlith? Or first one of her upcoming new style?”
The first render ever. As in, before I ever worked on a single page of Twilight Lady. Before I even knew completely who the Lady was. I only knew what she sort of looked like, and this was my first attempt at transferring that image of her from my mind into reality.
I don’t think we’ve heard a name before. I suspect he’s confused about exactly which force he’s playing with.
Re the art: I’m still trying not to let early exposure bias me, and to allow time for the collaboration to develop. As has been said, it’s certainly better than losing the story entirely due to time constraints. And it’s pretty decent comic-book art. And it lets the story do some things visually that would have been harder in the old style. And, of course, I’m comparing the best of the old style against a smaller sample of the new. I do think there’s potential here.
But I think part of what drew me into the original was that the “uncanny valley” effect of the renders meshed nicely with the somewhat surreal storyline, especially in subrealm. And that’s something that drawn art just isn’t going to achieve unless the artist spends a LOT of time on it.
Of course, as the Dr. Who fans say, “You never forget your first Doctor.” This may be much more successful for folks who don’t come in with the previous bias, and in fact might work better for them. So my opinion should be taken with a five-pound block of salt.
But… well, let’s put it this way. I bought the hardcopy. I’m not sure that I would have if this was what we had started with. It’s fine, but it just doesn’t hit me as immediately as something new and different enough that I want it on my shelf. Or at least, not yet. I reserve the right to have my socks knocked off at a later date.
(Przemyslaw: Please do NOT take this as strong criticism. You’re doing a good job with it. I’m just still waiting for the page, or panel, that rises from good to great. Keep going; you’ll get there…)
I do have to rather agree with what Technogeek said about the art. Don’t get me wrong. I think the new art is very definitely high quality, professional to say the least, and has its own unique character. It’s merely that that character is not what I’m used to. As I think many of us had, I’d grown used to the art as a thematic element in the story, as its own component in how that story was told and how it was meant to be interpreted. Changing the art has inevitably changed the character of the comic somewhat. And this is to be expected; any good artist puts his own stamp on his work.
But I do admit, I somewhat miss the character it used to have; that quality of dark, gritty surrealism that made one question everything he saw. I can see Mr. Dedelis and Mr. Burres are trying to achieve a similar effect, and I do give them a great deal of credit for how well their work fits the atmosphere. But I think I for one will need some more time to see if the new face of the comic suits it as well as the old.
As many other comments I’ve seen I prefer the old art style. The new one is great but it lacks the same feel. The old art style really felt dark and mysterious and the new one feels, in lack of better words, everyday in comparison. But as always, and as it should be, the story comes first no matter how it’s told just feels like the comic have lost something.
I don’t know for sure if kiko is a deamon.. but one thing I am sure of is he isnt what he claims to be. as pointed out he goes from acting the innocent child murdered by a monster. then we meet this so called monsteter (franc) and from is evey thought ,word and action he is anything but a monster. kiko then goes to angry victem to smooth asskisser to now, trying to order the lady to do his bidding. like he’s has more power (or once had more power) then he has now. Also as far as I can remeber no one ever told him the name. (if im wrong please fill me in , i missed it) so if he wasn’t told the name and franc’s body was the body kiko was born into. How does he know a name that she stopped useing hundreds of years ago???
boy this kid is dead wrong SHE was justice and only does vengeance when its called for and when someone seeks her there release…
i wonder when the boy will notice that she not even stopping and looking back at him

Kid did his research.
Are the statues meant to symbolize something?
He doesn’t seem to be swaying her in the slightest!

I prefer the new art, but I miss her freckles :p

As is whether that’s her true name at all.
You don’t have to be wise to know things. You just have to talk to the right people.
“Are the statues meant to symbolize something?”
Most definitely. Quite a number of them are based on existing sculptures. At some point I plan to put up a reference guide as to what’s what.
In the meantime, can I just say what a fine job Przemyslaw is doing reproducing these sculptures in drawing?

I for one don’t think Kiko’s a demon. Him being a ghost is more than enough justification for any strangeness in his behaviour.
