I don’t think it’s so she can kill it. It wouldn’t stand a chance either way. IF she is simply taunting it to enrage it(which I doubt. She probably is, but that’s also probably not the only reason. Why does everyone always assume everybody only ever has one reason for things?), then she’s probably only doing so to sharpen her ability to do so. As has been said, she’s not relied on anything but her touch in a long time, and so must practice.
She’s not entirely the paragon of TRUTH either. Remember when she told that rapist/murderer that she’d take him to his friends and then the warden that the trees would be “going with US,” yet left them all behind to be found by Elanor? Nothing she says is to EVER be taken at face value. This child is clearly angered, but is showing wisdom that it’s parents did not and is studying the opponent VERY carefully.
ah, but he did leave, I think the lady had decided that the mugger and his friends weren’t going to leave with her, but that they would be leaving eventually. I personally think everything that happens around teh lady is carefully planned out. As to why she is saying that she won’t evade. I have a disturbing thought on that. What if she is being honest to show him that attempting to cut her would have no effect at all. Could you imagine the reaction it would send through him to find out that his parents died for nothing because their attempts to kill her were pointless to begin with? If this was indeed the case and she is immune to their assualts what would this in turn say about our dear lady?
oh, one last comment, this dealing with that music mentioned above. I really believe that is more teh sound track of the ladies life, not just this one battle. I had been thinking of that very music but I just couldn’t seem to track it down myself. It’s very apt and even fitting for the lady wouldn’t you say?
taunt the enemy into anger, let thing strke blindly so you can kill. way to go lady.

Hrmmm, does the Lady lie? I don’t seem to recall any…and she told wee monster she’d not evade. Interesting.
What does it mean to be a Skylovian?
This music has been going through my head ever since the Lady started fighting.

If you’re asking for my opinion… that piece just seems to evoke her deadly grace in battle. There’s more to her than just this aspect.
But I wouldn’t presume to assign a theme song to someone else’s character. Particularly as Mr. Chen is quite capable of writing music himself. ^^
good point. That’s just the music I hear in my mind when she’s up to things or out and about.
