Something tells me that the lady is actually going to fuse with Jen to make Jen her successor… :p
Glowing red eyes always inspire the question: “Who dies first?”
Zombie Jen coming, would that be a Jenbie?
@wolfgang oh yeah and right after that is the bathroom after she eats them alive
Ha ha, i knew that Lady will break out or she really is turning into zombie because of all the energy loss.
Did s/he just say ‘I’ll be right back?’ Cause we all know what happens when you say that!
What’s going on every body, new member around here.
Somehow, I don’t think the convulsions are all drug effects…
Someone seems to have forgotten the first rule of magical safety: Never invoke what thou canst not banish.
…unless you know exactly what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.
Damn, that comic really should get an award … “mother of all cliffhangers” or something π
I remember Blake mentioning somewhere that Jen would become aware of the Lady at some point. I vote now-ish.
Smokeyjess… I’m afraid that’s a very long backstory, and the simplest way to answer it is to suggest that you read at least from the beginning of the chapter (http://www.twilightlady.com/2010/02/28/nemesis-of-decay/), and perhaps from the beginning of the comic.
In brief… No, I’m not sure I can explain it in brief.
In snapshot: Jen, the imprisoned gal, is an unaware (so far) avatar of a compassionately deadly supernatural being known as The Lady. Rona (the black gal) was her roommate but Rona’s soul is has been forced out and the body is now occupied by someone who has a prior grudge against both Jen and The Lady. Jen’s other captor is hoping to (ab)use The Lady’s abilities to resurrect someone; past attempts have been, shall we say less than fully successful.
There are also a number of other characters running around the immediate area, of course, mostly on Jen’s side though not necessarily on The Lady’s side. I’m just guessing, but the most significant of these may be a pair of priests who are friends of Jen’s and have some slight understanding of Jen’s status but not necessarily of The Lady’s motivations.
There, now you know enough to rush in and almost certainly get yourself killed.
(Good enough, Blake? I was trying to strike a balance between informative and provocative, while leaving out as much as possible of my own guesses and surmises…)
Hey, you guys are always better at summing things up than me.
“There, now you know enough to rush in and almost certainly get yourself killed.”
SHHH… gotta keep unsuspecting victims unsuspecting.
Another point I’d mention is that the Lady’s main enemy, an angel-in-a-bag-lady named Eleanor Rigby, has brought to fruition a plan that has spanned the entire story so far and, for the time being, seems to have rendered the Lady permanently impotent and incommunicado. (She used to be able to astrally project at night.) Her work done, Eleanor has left, leaving any problems that may arise in the laps of her erstwhile servants. Or so it would seem, anyway.
Also, I didn’t know Rona was black.
Neither did I. π
And, Rona has allies of her own, notably:
1. a team of Astral Plane explorers
2. a vampire
3. the vampires side-kick who had(has?) a strange love interest in Rona. The word ‘twisted love interest’ is more appropriate, but the modern connotation of ‘twisted’ has a very negative/amoral hint. I simply refer to a real twist as in “what was forwards became backwards and maybe forwards again” type of way π
More allies include:
4. The deceased spirit of Harry Houdini.
5. A ghostly spy who knows everything there is to know about the neighborhood.
6. A family of hobbit witches.
7. Two priests who are very well capable of performing an exorcism.
Best online strip ever! I usually don’t get into the CG looking ones but DANG! I was so hooked that I read the whole thing in a day!
Thanks and welcome aboard, O Nameless One.
Rona being black: Entirely possible I misinterpreted Blake’s intent; hard to be certain of skin tone and features through a sketch, and they can be misleading even in real life…. and aren’t particularly meaningful in any case. Doesn’t matter much to the story either way.
Re “CG looking ones” — Blake, if you ever told us what techniques you’re using to illustrate this, I missed that reply. I, for one, would be interested in a “making of” sequence at some point.
Duly noted!
“Entirely possible I misinterpreted Blakeβs intent”
Not at all. The ethnicity of the characters has always been open to interpretation unless/until they’re actually specified in the comic. And to date, no one’s has… simply because, as you pointed out, it’s not (so far, at least) important to the story or the character(s).
I always thought Rona was Arab. Then again it took me a while to realise Jen was Asian. But I like that the character’s ethnicity isn’t so obvious in the art.
I’m surprised no one pointed this out already.

Sooo Jason’s in BIG trouble, for being too dumb tolive.
Red glowing eyes, convulsions of weird nature… mayhem about to unleash π
btw i had the feel of Rona being black for a while now….
also, technogeeks summing of the story made it clear i have to read it all again… damned bad memory π
Of all the stupid idiotic things they could have done….*sighs*
You’re updating December 7th? I’m sorry, I’ll be so busy with something else that I’ll forget to eat and drink, so much s that I can’t take time to remember to read this π
if you can guess why, you get a cookie
Woo! Restarts on my birthday. π
Sounds like Nihilix is planning a surprise party for you.
Okay, I just finished this series up to the as of now latest installment and all I have to say is wow. The art style is what immediately caught my eye, a blending of 3dish computer rendered-like style mixed with at times a definite hand drawn approach. Well played Mr. Chen. With that said I have to say if this ain’t one of the most addicting web comics ever then “by the tendrils of Cthulu” I want, no…DARE you to show me a better one (and yes I know I probably used that epic saying wrong). Well time to go to bed now as I started this at about 6-8 pm probably and it is now 4:11am…got it all done in one sitting but boy does my head hurt from both staring at the screen so long and all the issues that you have explored most expertly in this web comic. Once again well done and I look forward to reading more in the future.
I object to the use of the words addictive and good interchangably. Those are different things. Thay may often coexist, like in this case, but addictive does not equal good.
Yeah my bad…but then again I wasn’t in much of a state to pick and choose my words very well, but yeah, definitely don’t want people to think I’m comparing this to crack haha.
