My question is not related to this scene, but…
I’ve wondered why neither Zorro, nor Father Nader made mention of the t-Shirt that Jen usually wears: A Pentagram on the front and “Born Again Pagan” on the back.
I mean, Zorro knows her well and might get used to it. But shouldn’t Father Nader have voiced disapproval or mentioned it at some point?
Rona mentions that Zorro has had an influence on Jen’s beliefs, but also said that she likes to think she’s had an influence on her as well. Does Jen’s t-shirt reflect the latter? Or is this something Jen just wears for her band or singer gig?
The shirt is for the singing “gig.” It’s also bad form to criticize the clothes your patrons wear, if you’re trying to convert them to your faith. Mocking, condemning or otherwise frowning on the clothes worn by your flock is a good way to drive them away. If Jen went to Zorro’s mass dressed like that, Zorro would be forced to tell her quietly that it’s inappropriate considering the rules of decorum, but when meeting in public or privately, it’s in Zorro’s best interest to be mum about it.
Both Zorro and Nadar are very much aware of Jen’s true condition, and neither of them seeks to quell it but rather accepts it as part of who she is. If you recall, Nadar was against the whole hypnosis thing. Their level of ambition lies in trying to keep her from killing as far as I can tell, allthough Zorro might have lowered it to just keeping her safe. In any case, the t-shirt is harmless.
Xpace: There’s an old story of a Rabbi who, when asked to teach the Law in under a minute, replied “Be kind to each other. The rest is commentary.”
Not all religious folks have trouble with folks who reach similar principles via other paths. And these two are more aware than most that a simplistic set of definitions doesn’t match the real world very well.
There’s also the question of how far the friendship goes back vs. how far the paganism goes back. If they’ve known Jen since she was a kid, they know how she got to where she is now and anything that might have been said about this has been said long ago. Beating a dead horse, even if one *does* disagree, is counterproductive. Not to mention rude.
(My standard response to proselytizing of any sort is “I accept that your beliefs are the result of a lifetime of consideration of these questions. I expect you to extend the same respect toward mine.”)
Chris: By the Lady’s rules as we’ve seen them, it isn’t clear that Eleanor is (literally) “asking for it.”
And we don’t really know what Eleanor is capable of, outside of the fact that she’s also free to walk both subrealm and senserealm and that she can move (other?) souls around.
Or what other constraints may be imposed on their actions… either inherently or from some source we don’t yet know.
I expect we’ll learn more eventually. I’m not making any bets about how much comes out now.
Ackshully, it was Rabbi Hillel, who was challenged thus: “To the one who asked to be taught the Torah on one foot, Hillel responded “What you don’t like done to you don’t do unto others. This is the entire Torah; the rest is commentary. Go and learn.” It’s the negative version of the Golden Rule. He was born before Jesus, though their lives may have overlapped. Jesus’ use of the positive version is an indicator the two could have met and Hillel may have trained Jesus. Or Jesus just knew the story.
Please don’t misunderstand. It does not bother me. I was merely ASKING because I had expected some dialog about it at some point. That is, polite inquiry or conversation. People talk about what they wear all the time.
That said, if it had come up, Jen might have felt pressured to explain that it was for work. And, based on the fact she made something up, she evidently did not want Father Nader to know about her singing.
I found this comic yesterday and spent all day catching up. Now I am caught up and I have to say this is a great comic. The storyline is awesome. They way I almost never can guess what is going to happen is a rarity for me. Good job. this should be in comic stores.
NOOO! PLEASE not comic stores! price of paperstuff here in South Africa is ridiculous 🙁 books and comics are overpriced. I haven’t bought an Asterix or TinTin this century!
And what is with the growing physical proximity throught the panels? In my world, I’d never let someone thrreatening violence get that close. Perhaps we are about to see the sentimental retelling of when they were sisters. And why they are enemies now.
Then they can have the badass fight!

Also, I recall this scene where Rona and Zorro first met:

I think the t-shirt is part of her singing gig.

On another topic: Jealous much, Eleanor?
I would have thought that The Lady would have tried to tear her apart. I’m surprised at the incredible amount of restraint she is showing.

I have no idea if this is important or not, but I thought I’d point out she is no longer green.

@technogeek You know I hadn’t thought of that before. Either way though I’m incredibly interested in seeing what happens next.
follow the Golden Rule and the rest is commentary:) beautiful. poetic. I like it.

And then there’s that whole killing trees thing…
The Lady doesn’t seem at all interested in fighting Eleanor…
That’s logical really, if both of them wanted to fight it wouldn’t have taken so many hoops to get a confrontation.
And what is with the growing physical proximity throught the panels? In my world, I’d never let someone thrreatening violence get that close. Perhaps we are about to see the sentimental retelling of when they were sisters. And why they are enemies now.

That, and the left hands back-to-back is how we’d start our sparring.
