I’ve wondered that for some time now. Of course, part of it is that Rona rescued the Lady from Belahm. That may be why she feels like she owes Rona protection. But other than that… Rona isn’t unique in this regard. There are other people that the Lady spends a disproportionate amount of time with, like Maggie. Although I suspect Rona gets even more of the Lady’s attention than Maggie did…
My current theory is that the Lady finds a kindred spirit in Rona. Someone who actually understands what she’s saying (which is a rare treasure given the world of idiots she obviously feels like she lives in), and more than that, someone who she believes can in time ascend to her level of enlightenment. I think that the Lady sees in Rona’s relentless pursuit of truth and knowledge something that reminds her of herself, and therefore considers Rona to be someone worthy her time, attention, and mentorship.
If the Angelic Hag (forget her name) has snagged Rona’s Senserealm body, the Lady has cause for concern. Nevermind the fact that Rona is the roommate of the Lady’s Senserealm host.
Rona being Jen’s roommate, however, would have given the Lady a lot of time to observe Rona and think about her. (Remember, she says she knows everything Jen does.) It may have some bearing on this, simply because the Lady knew Rona rather well before they even “met” the first time, more than likely. And you judge people you know differently from people you don’t.
I can’t help but be disappointed in Rona too. However sensible and smart the decision is, they’re still leaving someone they could potentially save to an eternity of torment with no hope of rescue (that we know of, anyway).
However unlikely the saving and however foolish the attempt, it still rankles to see this as their decision. Bleh.
I’m becoming quite curious as to why the Lady is going so far with her involvement with Rona. This seems to go well beyond a mere maternal whim.

All this bound because her “body” share a room with Rona? I think is way deeper.
Albert has a nice theory over there!

Oh, and I’m glad you like my ideas. I do spend a while formulating them. Probably more than I should.
